Will Power, I Have None

Ever since learning yesterday that Red Velvet Cupcakery opened near my office I’ve been craving cupcakes.

So what do I do, I indulge folks!  So, with a couple friends this afternoon, I adventured over there and OMGSOFREAKINGGOOD!

Nom, nom, nom…hiccup.

Yes. That’s right I was ridiculous. I was gluttonous, and it was soooooo worth the extra badness.

They even have a little box that holds the cupcakes (that’s right cupcakes, as in plural) so they don’t get smooched.  And if my cell phone could actually get reception in my office I would totally insert my picture of the sugary goodness, but alas no such luck. Whoohoo! I finally got photo of this sinfully delicious treat!

I tried four (CUZ I HAVE NO WILL POWER…and because really when you crave cupcakes you crave them.  And I walked back, so that counts for maybe 1/16th of one cupcake…):

Southern Belle (red velvet cake and whipped cream cheese frosting) -  Let me start by saying that do not like cream cheese frosting, but this little cupcake was hard to resist.  And I’m glad I didn’t because the frosting was light, creamy, and smooth.  The red velvet cake was moist, and airy, not dense like Cake Love.

Vanilla Bean (vanilla bean cake and Madagascar bourbon vanilla frosting) – This one was my favorite, hands down, but then I am a huge fan of vanilla in general. (I’m that person that tends to order vanilla ice cream even when there are insane combinations on the menu.) Again the cupcake was moist and flavorful, with a hint of vanilla.  The frosting was out of this world to die for, and I loved that you could see the little vanilla beans.

Key West (key lime cake and white chocolate butter cream) – The lime flavor in the cake was not over powering, and again it was very moist.  The butter cream is nothing liker Cake Love, which in my opinion can sometimes be a little heavy on the butter.  Red Velvet’s was light airy and not overpoweringly sweet.

Peanut Butter Cup (chocolate chocolate-chip cake with salted peanut butter frosting) – I am a huge fan of salty sweet combinations, and this was a really great paring.  The chocolate chocolate-chip cake is rich, we aren’t talking milk chocolate here, but rather semi-sweet.  The frosting with hit of sweet with the salty peanut butter offset the richness of the chocolate perfectly.

Final verdict: I am so SCREWED.
